Today at about 1 pm, a garbage truck was traveling west in the 900 block of W. Sierra Madre Avenue. For some reason, the contents in the back of the truck ignited, and started a fire.
The driver of the truck was able to turn into the parking lot of the Azusa Greens Golf Course. The driver found a safe area away from other vehicles and buildings, and immediately dumped the load of burning trash onto the pavement.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department arrived and put out the fire. With the assistance of a second trash truck and the City of Azusa Public Works Department, the scene was cleaned up. There were no injuries or damages reported. The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
