Child And Woman Injured In Traffic Collision

Child And Woman Injured In Traffic Collision

On Monday, November 24th, at about 5:41 pm, officers from the Azusa Police Department responded to a call of an injury traffic collision in the 500 block of N. San Gabriel Avenue.

The officers arrived and found two injured pedestrians near a stopped pick-up truck. A preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan pick-up truck, which was driven by a 30 year-old Whittier resident, was driving south on San Gabriel Avenue, when two pedestrians suddenly darted across the roadway, into the truck's path.

The pedestrian's were mid-block between designated crosswalks. The driver tried to stop his truck to avoid a collision, but unfortunately he struck both pedestrians. One of the pedestrians was a six year-old child, who initially traveled under the front of the truck, but was cast out from the side of the truck. She suffered head contusions and abrasions, but was otherwise conscious and alert. The other pedestrian, a 52 year-old woman, suffered minor contusions to her forearm after receiving a glancing impact from the pick-up's side-view mirror.

Both the child and the woman were treated by Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics at the scene, and transported to a local hospital. The driver of the pick-up was not injured. While the collision remains under investigation, preliminary information suggests that neither alcohol nor drugs were a contributing factor in the cause of the collision.

The Azusa Police Department wants to remind pedestrians to use caution before crossing any roadway, whether in a crosswalk or not. Look both ways and do not attempt to beat an approaching vehicle.
