Drinking And Driving Ruins Cinco de Mayo For Group of 6

On May 6th, 2016 at about 4 am, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Virginia Avenue, in regards to an injury traffic collision. One of the callers reported the driver leaving his vehicle and injured passengers, and running away from the scene.

Officers arrived on the scene and began rendering aid to the injured passengers. The front passenger was trapped in the vehicle, due to the front dashboard pinning his legs to the seat. There were significant injuries to the passenger's face. Officers located a female laying on the roadway who had also sustained facial injuries, and a possible broken leg. A third victim was found seated on a curb with a lacerated lip and a large laceration on her forehead. An additional two male passengers were found to have injuries to their legs and faces.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Paramedics arrived at the scene and treated the victims, while officers completed a search of the area for the driver. Three of the passengers were transported to local hospitals, and two of them were transported to the trauma center at Los Angeles County / USC Medical Center.

The initial investigation revealed the Jeep was headed east on Foothill Boulevard, when it struck a traffic pole on the side of the roadway. After striking the pole, the Jeep continue east on Foothill until it came to rest. Officers found several open containers of alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle, and several of the passengers smelled of alcohol.

The Azusa Police Department can not stress enough the importance of doing the simply task of not drinking and driving. Have a designated driver or take a transportation service, but please, do not drink and drive.
