Fatal Traffic Accident

77 Year old man struck and killed while crossing a street in Azusa

 
Azusa Police Officers were sent to the intersection of Sierra Madre Avenue and Lemon Swirl Avenue on Monday, January 20th, at about 8:06 AM, after a person reported a man down in the street.  Upon arriving, officers found a 77 year old male resident in the middle of the road who had been struck by a full-sized pick up truck. 
 
During their initial investigation, officers learned the man had been crossing the street while walking his dog when hit, however, investigators have not yet established who was at fault.  The man was treated by paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department before being transported by helicopter to a trauma center in Los Angeles.  He later died from his injuries. The dog was released into the care of a family member.
 
The driver of the pick up truck stayed at the scene and fully cooperated with officers.  The accident is actively being investigated by members of the Azusa Police Department Traffic Bureau.  Anyone with information is asked to contact the Azusa Police Department at 626-812-3200.
