Injury Traffic Collision

On 4-28-17 at approximately 3:38 PM, officers from the Azusa Police Department responded to the intersection of Sierra Madre Ave. and Vernon Ave. regarding an injury traffic collision involving a vehicle fire. Emergency personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene to treat an injured driver and to extinguish the vehicle fire. Due to the nature of collision and injury, the Azusa Police Department Traffic Bureau handled the investigation. 

It was preliminarily determined that a sedan collided with an SUV at a high rate of speed which caused the SUV to roll over. A 59 year old female driver of the SUV was transported to Pomona Valley Hospital for medical treatment. Her injuries are not life threatening at this point. The driver of the sedan,  Daniel Covarrubias (Baldwin Park Resident, Age 27 years)  was arrested for driving on a suspended license and booked at the Azusa Police Department Jail. The cause of this collision is still under investigation by the Azusa Police Department Traffic Bureau. At this point in the investigation, alcohol is not suspected as a factor in the collision.
