  • American Red Cross - Prepare SoCal
Here in Southern California, we are living in one of the most at-risk areas for earthquakes. The "Big One" — an earthquake of magnitude 7.8 or higher — is long overdue, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Although studies show that being prepared is the most critical step in someone's ability to recover from a major disaster, most local residents admit to being largely unprepared for emergency situations. That's why the American Red Cross is promoting PrepareSoCal — a public awareness campaign to create more resilient communities that are better equipped to help each other prevent, prepare for and respond to life-threatening disasters. Natural disasters do not discriminate — they strike members of all socioeconomic groups, in all neighborhoods. So, everyone needs to get prepared and help prepare others.
