Former Official of the Azusa National Little League Convicted of Grand Theft

In April of 2015, members of the Board of the Azusa National Little League reported to the Azusa Police Department the possible embezzlement of several thousand dollars over a period of a few years, by Marsha Juarez (51 years old), a former member and President of the Board.

Evidence obtained during the investigation showed that Juarez had used her league debit and checking account access to make numerous cash withdrawals and purchases that were personal in nature between approximately May of 2010 through March of 2015. As with most embezzlement and financial crimes, the case took some time to prepare. In July of 2016, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office in West Covina and (3) separate counts of grand theft were filed, (1) combined count for the years 2013, 2014, 2015.

In late January 2016, the case went to trial at West Covina Superior Court. After more than three weeks, the trial concluded and the jury found Juarez guilty on all three counts. Juarez was sentenced on February 14, 2017 and received jail time and community service. A restitution hearing will be held in late March to determine the amount to be returned.

The Azusa Police Department takes these types of crimes very seriously and will make sure that all cases are thoroughly investigated.
