Domestic Violence Suspect Barricades Self With Children

On Monday, July 24, 2017 at about 0640 hours, officers from the Azusa Police Department went to the 900 block of N. Azusa Avenue in regards to a domestic violence investigation.

The officers met with a female victim, who had told them she had been assaulted by her ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Barrios (Age 39 from Azusa). The female was able to exit the residence, prior to the officers arriving.

While the officers were completing their investigation, they learned there were two young children inside the residence with Barrios. The officers asked Barrios to exit the residence, however, he refused to do so.

For the safety of the neighborhood, the children, and the officers, it was decided to evacuate nearby residents. The Azusa Police Department's SWAT team deployed and requested assistance from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Special Enforcement Bureau ("SEB").

Crisis negotiators made contact with Barrios via telephone, and after a course of a couple of hours, were able to convince him to release the children. The children exited the residence and were transported to the Azusa Police Department's station where they were interviewed by detectives.

At about 1200 hours, Barrios exited the residence where he was safely detained by officers. Barrios was arrested and transported to the Azusa Police Department's jail. Booking charges are pending at this time.
