On July 2, 2016 at approximately 02:43am, Azusa Police Officers responded to the 1300 Blk. N. Dalton Ave. regarding a report of an armed carjacking involving at least 2 male adult suspects. The victim told officers that one of the adult suspects was armed with a handgun when they stole his Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck. Within minutes of the crime broadcast, Azusa Police Officers located the stolen vehicle in the area of 800 Blk. N. San Gabriel Ave. Upon locating the vehicle, suspects fled from officers and a vehicle pursuit was initiated.
The suspects spun out of control in the stolen Silverado pick-up truck and collided into a fence in the area of Fourth St. and Barbara Ave. At that time, 3 adult male suspects fled the scene of the incident on foot. Azusa Police Officers along with multiple agencies (California Highway Patrol, West Covina Police Department, Glendora Police Department, Irwindale Police Department, and South Pasadena Police Department), immediately set up a containment and began to search the area. During the search, police K-9s were deployed to assist. Officers detained and arrested 18 year old, La Puente resident, Jose Mora. Mora was booked at the Azusa Police Department Jail for 215 PC- Carjacking and 211 PC- Robbery. The other two suspects were not located.
Mora is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail and his bail is set at $100,000.00. The Azusa Police Department Detective Bureau is actively conducting an investigation on this incident.
