Colby Fire Update For Saturday, January 18

Residents can't return to Mountain Cove yet...

As of Saturday, January 18th, at 0711 hours, the Colby Fire is still only 30% contianed and spanning an area of 1863 acres. Firefighters continue to fight the fire to keep it away from the Mountain Cove community.

There will be aircraft operations throughout the day working to extinguish the fire, with hand crews working from the ground.

Highway 39 remains closed so emergency crews can continue to work and travel freely, without obstructions by motorists or pedestrians. There is falling rocks and hot debris which is landing on Highway 39 as well.

Law enforcement is still maintaining a heavy presence in the area for not only traffic and pedestrian control, but security of evacuated residences as well.  No one is allowed past the law enforcement checkpoints on Highway 39, for safety and security purposes.

Photos

Our patrol officers were able to take a small amount of pictures of the active fire at about 0700 hours this morning. You may view these photos on the Azusa Police Department's Flickr page here.

Unhealthy Air

We realize the air is filled with smoke and ash. Everyone, especially children, seniors and those with breathing difficulties, should take extra precautions. You can find helpful hints provided by the South Coast Air Quality Management on our website by clicking here.
