Last night, at approximately 6:33, officers from the Azusa Police Department were sent to the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street, regarding an injury traffic collision.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 1993 Toyota Corolla, driven by a 71 year old Covina resident, entered the intersection of Azusa Avenue and Gladstone Street from the westbound left turn bay of Gladstone Street. As the Corolla was making the left turn, a 2013 Chevy Cruz, driven by a 28 year old Azusa resident, entered the intersection northbound on Azusa Avenue, and struck the Corolla broadside.
The collision left both vehicles disabled in the intersection. Paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded and treated all parties involved and all were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the driver of the Corolla succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital emergency room.
Names of the involved parties are not being released at this time pending proper identifications and notifications.
Traffic investigators responded to the scene and are currently seeking to determine the cause of the collision. At this time, alcohol does not appear to have played a part in the collision.
