On July 24, 2018 at about 10:30 PM, Azusa Police Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of S. Vincent Avenue, Azusa regarding an elderly female who called and requested immediate Police assistance. The grandmother was heard crying and arguing with her 22 year old grandson at the location. The grandmother reported her grandson was at her residence "Going crazy" and breaking windows of her residence and vehicles in the area. The emergency telephone call to the police department suddenly disconnected while the grandmother was providing information.
As Azusa PD Officers arrived to the area, the enraged grandson was located to the front of the residence wearing a bloodied shirt and cursing at family members who were attempting to calm him down. The grandson then focused on the uniformed Officers and aggressively advanced towards them challenging them to fight. Officers initially gave the grandson numerous commands to stop his actions in an attempt to control him, but the cursing and aggressive behavior continued. Officers attempted to physically restrain the grandson with defensive tactic techniques as the grandson started to assault the Officers by punching at them. The grandson also attempted to grab at the Officer's gun belts to obtain their safety equipment. A taser was used on the grandson in order to gain compliance and to take him into custody. During the grandson's violent attack on the Officers, one Officer suffered a moderate injury to his upper body in which he was transported to a local hospital for exams. The grandson suffered minor injuries from a taser dart and was transported to the hospital for precautionary measures.
According to family members at the location, the grandson was possibly intoxicated and upset at them for not repairing his broken cellular telephone. The grandson was booked for three felony assault charges and housed at the Los Angeles County Jail with a set bail of $50,000.00.
