On October 9, 2015 at about 9:34 p.m., a police officer from the Azusa Police Department saw a white Acura MDX SUV run two red lights in the 600 block E. Foothill Boulevard, nearly colliding with two vehicles.
The officer attempted to pull the Acura over, but the driver would not stop, and a pursuit began. Richard Ryan Gonzalez, a 36 year-old male from Riverside, continued driving the Acura west on Foothill Boulevard, and led officers into the city of Duarte. Gonzalez entered the eastbound 210 Freeway, at which time the California Highway Patrol was notified.
The CHP officers took over the pursuit in the area of Towne Ave. and the 210 Freeway. The pursuit continued on the 210, 215 and 91 freeways. Fortunately, Gonzalez' vehicle appeared to have run out of gas in the area of the 91 Freeway and Adams/Auto Center Drive.
Gonzalez was safely arrested and transported back to the Azusa Police Department, where he was arrested for felony evasion of a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving a vehicle without a license, and for a previous warrant for his arrest.
