Last night, at about 11:30 pm, Azusa Police officers were sent to the apartment complex at 260 E. Newburgh Street in regards to a man who had been stabbed.
Officers found a 35 year old man laying on a balcony, suffering from a stab wound. As paramedics arrived and treated the victim, officers learned from witnesses that the man who had done the stabbing, was inside apartment 29. As officers approached the apartment, the 32 year old suspect, Vincente Mariano Fernandez, stood in the doorway, and began yelling at the officers in an aggressive manner.
The officers were able to safely detain Fernandez, who was positively identified as the suspect. The officers arrested Fernandez for the charge of assault with a deadly weapon, and transported him to the Azusa Police Department's station for booking and processing.
The victim was transported to a local trauma center.
