Over the last few years, the city of Azusa has seen an increase in our homeless population. Although being homeless is not a crime, the Azusa Police Department is doing it’s part to help both the community and those affected by homelessness coexist in a peaceful and positive manner.
Thanks to the dedication and commitment of Lieutenant Chris Grant, Corporal Andy Rodriguez and Officer Kyle Bailey, who have the collateral duty of “Homeless Assistance Liaison Officers,” the department has been able to begin a multi-pronged program to start addressing the issue of homelessness in Azusa.
We Have To Know The Numbers
The department, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, will be conducting a homeless count on the night of Tuesday, January 26, 2016. Starting at 8pm, volunteers from the community are needed to help the Azusa PD and LAHSA conduct a count of our homeless population, which has a significant role in allowing these organizations to tailor the services needed and obtained for our city.
It's A Couple of Hours For A Lifetime Solution
As a resident or business owner in Azusa, the three hours of your time you donate to the community could have a life-changing effect on a homeless person. From housing and medical care to potential future employment, options may become available to a person whom we never knew existed in our community.
Set The Example Through Modeling
We all talk among our family, friends and co-workers about issues affecting our day-to-day lives. Now is the time for our community as a whole, whether an adult or a teen, to demonstrate the great care for our community we all have. If you are a teen, you may be able to participate in this worthy, community cause. If you are a parent of a teen, consider taking this opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of community involvement.
