Evacuations Meeting for Residents

Evacuations Meeting for Residents

This afternoon, Captain Fleming went Live on Facebook to address some of the community's concern. We are aware that some residents are not active on social media and we are trying to keep everyone informed with the evacuations. This post will have a synopsis of the Live Facebook video from this afternoon. Captain Fleming addressed the issue with residents trying to get back into the community of Mountain Cove. At this time, we are not allowed to let residents into the community due to the mandatory evacuations. We will work with residents who need to retrieve live pets, medication, or other people that may still be inside of the residence. If you fit into this category, please contact CSO Jennifer Wu, via Twitter (preferred) @AzusaPD, Facebook.com/Azusapd , or Instagram @AzusaPD. CSO Wu will then coordinate with police personnel stationed at Mountain Cove to escort you to your residence. You will need to have a Driver's License showing your Mountain Cove address or any documentation that will show proof of residency in the Mountain Cove community. Captain Fleming also explained that our department is working 24/7 with officers working 12+ hour shifts to keep the Mountain Cove community and surrounding areas protected during evacuations. The San Gabriel Complex fire is still active behind the ridge at Mountain Cove, there is still some hot spots which are creating concerns for the Fire Department. Should there be a change in weather conditions or wind conditions, that can cause a problem and change the direction of the fire and potentially push the flames over the ridge and down to the Mountain Cove community. The Fire Department is erring on the side of caution to make sure the residents are safe. It is important to continue to hold the mandatory evacuations in case the fire continues to move towards Mountain Cove it would be extremely difficult to re-evacuate all while trying to get emergency personnel, including fire engines and crew up Highway 39. This would create complete chaos and pose as a danger to the community and all Fire & Law Enforcement personnel. Our first concern is life and second is property, we are thankful that Mountain Cove residents have been extremely cooperative at this time and have eliminated the life factor and making it easier for everyone involved. Tonight at North View Intermediate School located at 1401 Highland Ave, in Duarte, there will be a Community Meeting for residents of the evacuated areas. At the meeting there will be Fire personnel, Law Enforcement personnel and Fire experts that will better update you regarding the evacuations and the fire. They will be there to address all of your concerns. Another Live Facebook video will be posted later tonight after the meeting for those who are not able to attend. We will be updating our social media platforms as soon as information is available. Please remember, only one person running social media at this time and we ask you to be patient. We appreciate your cooperation, thank you very much on behalf of the Azusa Police Department.
