The City of Azusa and the Azusa Police Department are once again proud to welcome the 2017 Revel Canyon City Marathon to our beautiful community. We want everyone to have an enjoyable and safe experience while top athletes compete to qualify for the 2019 Boston City Marathon.
Where Is The Marathon Being Run?
The marathon will start at the top of Highway 39 in the San Gabriel Mountains, just south of Highway 2.
The athletes will run south on Highway 39 to the entrance of the canyon. From there, they will continue running south on Azusa Avenue to 9th Street. They'll make a left turn and head east on 9th Street then south on Palm Drive. From Palm Drive, runners will turn onto Foothill Blvd and finish the race on Alameda Ave directly west of Azusa City Hall.
What Time Is The Marathon?
The competitors will start the race at 7 am. However, Highway 39 will be closed at 6:15 am, and all other roadways will be closed at 7 am. We anticipate re-opening all roadways by 1:30 pm, with the exception of Alameda Ave, between Foothill Blvd and the Azusa PD building. This small section will remain closed until 5:00 pm.
*The entire impact time on the city will be between 5 am and 5 pm.
Where Can Competitors Park?
- Full Marathon participants will park in the old drive-in lot at Azusa Pacific University. Access to this parking lot can be made at the intersection of Foothill Boulevard and Rockvale Avenue.
- Half Marathon participants will park in the parking structure directly east of Target, as well as in the Target parking facility.
Where Can Spectators Park?
- NO PARKING on Foothill Boulevard between Citrus Avenue and Azusa Avenue.
- NO PARKING on Azusa/San Gabriel Canyon Road (Highway 39), north of Sierra Madre Avenue
- NO PARKING on Azusa Avenue, between Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Avenue
- NO PARKING on Ninth Street between Azusa Avenue and Palm Drive
Affected Areas For Residents
All residents who live in the area north of Ninth Street and east of Azusa Avenue are encouraged to use E. Sierra Madre Avenue to enter and exit their neighborhoods during the event. Residents will not be able to cross Ninth Street or Azusa Avenue.
If you live north of Azusa, in the San Gabriel Mountains, the California Highway Patrol will be providing escort services. Please contact the nearest police officer in the area of Sierra Madre Avenue and Azusa Avenue to obtain further directions.
The Azusa Police Department will be providing escort service to residents who live in the Mountain Cove community. All locations south of Mountain Cove, please follow the directions of police officers posted on the route. Also, be prepared to give yourself an extra 30 minutes lead time, due to the traffic detours.

Please consider the following:
- Carry personal items in clear plastic bags. This calms other spectators and enhances the public's safety
- Do not leave any items unattended. Maintain control of your property at all times.
- We discourage the use of backpacks, suitcases, and coolers
- Please do not carry or possess glass or metal cans
- Please do not wear any costumes, especially those that cover the face
- There are no flammable liquids, fuels, fireworks or explosives of any kind allowed
The Azusa Police Department will be assisted by the Glendora Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Bell Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department during this event.
Who Is REVEL?
