The 2017 Canyon City Marathon in Azusa Is Coming

The City of Azusa and the Azusa Police Department are once again proud to welcome the 2017 Revel Canyon City Marathon to our beautiful community. We want everyone to have an enjoyable and safe experience while top athletes compete to qualify for the 2019 Boston City Marathon.

Where Is The Marathon Being Run?

The marathon will start at the top of Highway 39 in the San Gabriel Mountains, just south of Highway 2.

The athletes will run south on Highway 39 to the entrance of the canyon. From there, they will continue running south on Azusa Avenue to 9th Street. They'll make a left turn and head east on 9th Street then south on Palm Drive. From Palm Drive, runners will turn onto Foothill Blvd and finish the race on Alameda Ave directly west of Azusa City Hall.

What Time Is The Marathon?

The competitors will start the race at 7 am. However, Highway 39 will be closed at 6:15 am, and all other roadways will be closed at 7 am. We anticipate re-opening all roadways by 1:30 pm, with the exception of Alameda Ave, between Foothill Blvd and the Azusa PD building. This small section will remain closed until 5:00 pm.

*The entire impact time on the city will be between 5 am and 5 pm.

Affected Areas For Residents

All residents who live in the area north of Ninth Street and east of Azusa Avenue are encouraged to use E. Sierra Madre Avenue to enter and exit their neighborhoods during the event. Residents will not be able to cross Ninth Street or Azusa Avenue.

If you live north of Azusa, in the San Gabriel Mountains, the California Highway Patrol will be providing escort services. Please contact the nearest police officer in the area of Sierra Madre Avenue and Azusa Avenue to obtain further directions.

The Azusa Police Department will be providing escort service to residents who live in the Mountain Cove community. All locations south of Mountain Cove, please follow the directions of police officers posted on the route. Also, be prepared to give yourself an extra 30 minutes lead time, due to the traffic detours.

Residents living in between Stein Way & Dalton Ave (north of Foothill Blvd and south of 9th St) should expect delays when entering and exiting their neighborhoods. They should use Foothill Blvd rather than 9th St when entering and exiting their neighborhoods. Law enforcement will be present at the intersections of Dalton, Soldano, Pasadena, and Stein to help residents access their homes.

What About Safety and Security?

Your safety and security is paramount to the Azusa Police Department. All competitors, spectators, residents and business owners should expect a higher level of both uniformed and plain-clothes officers deployed for this event.

Please consider the following:

The Azusa Police Department will be assisted by the Glendora Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Bell Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department during this event.

Who Is REVEL?

REVEL is a series of running events that is gaining a broad presence in the running world by distinguishing its races in a number of ways, including its unique courses, emphasis on runner experience, and partnerships with local communities, nonprofit organizations, sponsors, and government agencies.

REVEL races can best be described by two words: Fast & Beautiful. Their events take place in the most beautiful venues available in the areas in which they are held. REVEL races seek to maximize the time the runners spend running in canyons, forests, state or national parks, and so forth. In addition, the downhill nature of REVEL races provides a unique opportunity for runners to achieve personal best times and qualify for exclusive events.

In addition to providing unforgettable experiences for their runners, REVEL races also deliver value to the communities who graciously host their events. Each REVEL race brings significant financial benefits to local economies, provides an opportunity for communities to brand themselves, and creates a healthier and more fitness-friendly community. REVEL Canyon City is proud to donate proceeds from registration fees to the City of Azusa Recreation and Family Services programs.
