Rabid Bat Found In Azusa

Rabid Bat Found In Azusa

On October 25th, a bat was found injured in Azusa. The bat was transferred over to the LA County Department of Health, where it was found to have rabies.

The County Health Officer is warning that anyone who may have come into direct physical contact with this or any other bat see their doctor to be evaluated for possible post-exposure anti-rabies treatment.

Please contact the Los Angeles County Veterinary Public Health Program at 213-989-7060, if you have questions.

Please report sick or dead bats, animal bites to people, or interactions between bats and pets to Veterinary Public Health at 213-989-7060 or LA County Animal Care and Control, which covers Azusa, at 626-962-3577.

Most bats in nature do not have rabies and are of no harm to people. However, it is important to never handle bats.
