At about 9:20 pm, Azusa police officers responded to a call of an attempted armed robbery that occurred in the area of the 400 Block N Vernon Ave in the City of Azusa. The lone male victim was walking southbound on Vernon Ave when a vehicle (driven by the lone suspect Joseph Cannon 20 yrs Glendora resident) pulled alongside of him. The male suspect Cannon displayed a handgun and demanded the victim's cellphone. Prior to complying with the suspect, several other vehicles drove into the area and the suspect drove off out of sight.
Several minutes later, an observant Azusa police officer spotted the possible suspect vehicle driving erratically in the area of Fourth St and Dalton Ave. The vehicle was stopped and the lone male driver detained pending further investigation.
Canon was positively identified by the victim as the suspect in the attempted armed robbery. Additionally, a replica semi-auto handgun was recovered from inside the vehicle.
