Azusa Police Department Press Release January 16, 2019
On 01/15/19 at approximately 4:59 pm, Azusa Police Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Sixth Street and Angeleno Avenue for a traffic violation. The driver failed to yield to officers and attempted to flee in the vehicle. A pursuit was initiated on the vehicle and the occupants which led officers into San Bernardino County. With assistance of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, Upland Police Department and Pomona Police Department, officers continued the pursuit. The pursuit ended in the City of Rancho Cucamonga when the suspect's vehicle was involved in a traffic collision. Both subjects were taken into custody at the termination of the pursuit.
During the course of the investigation, Azusa Police Department Detectives recovered a large quantity of illegal narcotics consistent with that used in sales of narcotics. Detectives also recovered a loaded firearm from the occupants.
Documented gang members Dennis Ayon, and Rudy Abasta were arrested on the above listed charges. Dennis Ayon was discovered to be on Post Release Community Supervision for prior weapons violations. Dennis Ayon was previously arrested for felony evading, possession of a controlled substance for sale, and transportation of a controlled substance while on Post Release Community Supervision.
