On August 30th, 2018, at 9:50 a.m., Azusa Police Department officers were sent to the 800 block of East Arrow Highway, Azusa after receiving several 9-1-1 calls that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, Azusa Police and Covina Police officers began rendering aid to a male adult in the street. He had suffered significant life-threatening injuries and despite medical assistance from officers and the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the accident. Based on witness statements, it appears the pedestrian was crossing Arrow Highway outside of the marked crosswalk zone when he was hit by a vehicle traveling on Arrow Highway. It is yet to be determined if alcohol intoxication, drug use, or cellular telephone violations were contributing factors. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene of the accident and is cooperating with the investigation.
