Azusa Police To Test Emergency Siren

Azusa Police To Test Emergency Siren

On Monday, September 28, 2015, the Azusa Police Department will test the Early Warning Siren between 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

The siren is located near Highway 39, at the entrance to the canyon, and will be tested at intervals for about 5 minutes. Residents do not need to take any action during these tests.

The tests will be conducted to ensure that the early warning system is operational and the connection to the Azusa Police Department’s Communication’s Center is functioning properly.

The Azusa Police Department, together with the Azusa Amateur Radio Communication’s Emergency Services (A.A.C.E.S.), a group of resident volunteers that provide emergency communications in the event of a disaster, will be coordinating the test.

The purpose of the siren is to notify residents in close proximity to the entrance of the canyon in the event of a wild land fire or flood. It is not expected that all residents would hear the siren if indoors, which is why the siren is complementary to emergency response personnel announcements, door-to-door notifications and web-based social media alerts, as part of the city’s emergency response procedures.
