Garcia Trail Update

A popular fitness and hiking trail above Azusa has been damaged by the Colby Fire

Between January 16th thru the 19th of this year, the Colby Fire burned dangerously close to the residential portion of Azusa. During this fire, the popular hiking/fitness trail known as "Garcia Trail" incurred significant damage. Due to the damage, the trail has been closed to the public.

Due to the popularity of the trail and several requests as to the status of the trail's condition, City Manager James Makshanoff created a video presentation containing current photos of the trail, which you can watch here on our website.

The Trail's Status

Clearly visible in the presentation is evidence the trail is not safe to use and is unstable. The Los Angeles County Fire Department's Forestry Division is currently evaluating the condition of the trail, and will render a determination as to the trail's permanent status.

Therefore, the trail is closed indefinately. Should you proceed past the signs advising the trail is closed, you are not only risking your safety, but may be subjected to both civil and criminal liabilities.

On behalf of the Azusa Police Department, the LA County Fire Department, the Azusa City Council and City Manager Makshanoff, we thank you in advance for your understanding.
