On October 18, 2015, Landes was located alive and well.

On October 17, 2015 at about 12:38 PM, Azusa Police Officers spoke to family members of Thomas Landes, a 64 year old Azusa resident. They reported that Mr. Landes has been suffering from a serious on-going medical condition for which he takes medication. At about 12 noon, he left his residence unexpectedly, leaving behind a note indicating that he was upset over his medical condition. He has not been seen since that time. 

Thomas Landes is described as a White male, 6'6" tall, weighing about 245 lbs, with short gray hair, a gray beard and wears glasses. He was last seen wearing a White T-Shirt, Blue Jeans and Gray tennis shoes. He left in a 2005 Honda Accord Hybrid, grey in color, bearing CA license plate# 5NHD060.
