Head-on Collision In Azusa Leaves Two Injured
Last night, at 11:45 pm, Azusa Police Officers were dispatched to an injury traffic collision in the 1900 block of Highway 39. Officers discovered the two vehicles involved in the crash were occupied by the drivers only, and both cars had hit each other head-on. It appeared the driver traveling south in a Honda coup crossed the center line, seconds before impact.  That driver, a 19 year-old resident of Azusa, was trapped in his vehicle until fire personnel could remove him.  He was flown by helicopter to a Los Angeles area hospital in critical condition.

The other involved driver, a 27 year-old Los Angeles resident, had been driving a Subaru coup, north on Highway 39.  He sustained minor to moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Although the accident is still under investigation, evidence suggests the driver of the Honda traveling south had crossed the center line before driving head-on into the north bound Subaru.  It is unknown at this stage of the investigation if alcohol or drugs was a contributing factor.
