On December 17, 2017 at 6:10 PM, Azusa Police Officers investigated a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision. A 31 year old male Compton resident was crossing the street on the 800 block N Azusa Avenue when he was struck by a passing vehicle. The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics and transported to a local trauma center. He suffered serious injuries, including several fractured bones. The driver of the vehicle, an 18 year old Azusa resident, stopped immediately after the collision. Based on witness statements, evidence at the scene, and security camera video, it appears that the pedestrian was walking in the street, well outside of the marked crosswalk, when he was struck by the vehicle.
The Azusa Police Department reminds all pedestrians to use marked crosswalks when crossing streets and to follow the direction of pedestrian traffic signals. During evening hours, avoid wearing dark clothing, and walk in well lit areas.
