Azusa Police To Hold First "Coffee With A Cop"

Building relationships with members of the community is a key component to successful community policing. The Azusa Police Department has always been proud of the service we provide to the residents, business owners and visitors to the city of Azusa. In return, the members of the community have been great supporters of the police department.

We want to take our relationship building to the next level. To do this, we're inviting our community to come and meet with us at Starbucks Coffee at 1119 E. Alosta Avenue, on Thursday, December 11th, between 8 am and 10 am. This is the Starbucks just east of Azusa Pacific University.

Members of the police department will be on hand to meet with you over a cup of coffee. We don't have any speeches planned or an agenda, other than to build relationships, answer questions and address concerns you may have. We've chosen a place where everyone can enjoy, in a friendly environment. Thanks to Starbucks, they're even going to provide some samples and free coffee*.

This program was started by two members of the Hawthorne (CA) Police Department a few years back, as a way to get feedback from the community, and build partnerships. Since the inception of the program, over 175 cities in 36 states have held their own Coffee With A Cop events. Feedback from these events has been overwhelmingly positive.

The core component of the program is simple - approachability. Many people never have the opportunity to speak with a police officer in a relaxed environment. Sometimes, people only come into contact with officers through calls for service, tragedies or traffic stops. By making ourselves more approachable through events like Coffee With A Cop, we form relationships with those we have sworn to protect.

Have Questions? Want To RSVP?

Although you don't have to RSVP, we've created a Facebook Event page you can visit to ask questions or let us know you're coming. Simply click here to visit the page. If you don't have Facebook, you can always comment on this article, and we'll respond as quickly as possible.

*Free coffee is only for those who come in and speak with us for a few minutes!
